I was first introduced to the chakras by my Grandmother Judith when I was a little kid. She’s been an energy healer ever since I can remember. She would tell me about the magic of these ancient energy centers that run throughout your body, known as chakras. I began studying the chakras more seriously in high school and have used this system throughout my whole career as a singer-songwriter and stage performer ~ pulling from the emotions and energy types within the chakras to fully express myself creatively through music.
This is the basis of my teaching method. Music isn’t just technical, it’s also physical, emotional, and spiritual. Music is a flow of energy: vibrations and frequencies.
Understanding the Chakras:
Chakras are often described as spinning wheels of energy, located along the central channel of the body. The word chakra literally means “wheel” or “circle” in Sanskrit. Chakras play a significant role in influencing our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. There are seven main chakras within the body and five chakras outside of the body, each with its unique qualities and characteristics.
The heart chakra, known as "Anahata" in Sanskrit, originates from ancient Indian spiritual traditions, particularly within the practice of yoga and the system of Ayurveda. It is one of the seven primary chakras in the human body, and its origin story is deeply embedded in Hinduism and Buddhism, both of which trace their roots to India and Nepal.
The idea of chakras can be found in texts dating back to around 1,000 BCE, specifically in the Upanishads, ancient Hindu scriptures that explore metaphysical concepts.
